Martha A. Gephart is a social and organizational psychologist whose research and consulting focus on organizational learning and performance in diverse settings. She is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Organization and Leadership, at Teachers College, Columbia University. She co-directs the J.M. Huber Institute for Learning in Organizations, Teachers College with Victoria Marsick. She is also the President of M. GEPHART ASSOCIATES LLC, which provides assessment, evaluation and consulting services to organizations.
Before becoming a faculty member at Teachers College, Martha was Senior Vice President at the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), where she developed and managed research programs on workplace performance, learning, and training; and Program Director at the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) in New York where she developed and managed domestic and international collaborative research linking scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.
Martha's current research and consulting are on the development and assessment of organizational capacity for learning, innovation, and performance. She has developed an assessment framework and instruments that are used to guide system learning and change in organizations, collaboratives, knowledge networks, and communities.
She has undertaken research and consulted in a variety of private and public organizations, including: small and large companies in the financial, health care, pharmaceutical, retail, technology, telecommunications, and utility sectors; in not-for profit and government agencies; in community-based collaboratives; and in schools and institutions of higher education.
